HOPE VI Application Development

The HOPE VI Application is a Master Plan and Revitalization/Redevelopment Strategy for the former public housing community. BG’s principal’s have been involved in the development of eight HOPE VI applications for numerous cities. BG utilizes a comprehensive and inclusive process to organize the preparation and development of a successful HOPE VI Application. In cooperation and partnership with the Housing Authority, Residents, City, and relevant stakeholders, BG develops a strategy that will revitalize the community and serve the larger neighborhood. BG and its principals has successfully secured $139,494,400 in HOPE VI Grants.

Project Highlights:

  • Three applications were prepared by principals of BG during their tenure with the Atlanta Housing Authority prior to 2001. HUD selected all three HOPE VI Applications for funding amounting to $89.7 million.
  • In 2002, BG’s principals assisted in the development of two different HOPE VI applications. Peabody Apartments in Columbus, Georgia was selected for $20 million.
  • In 2003/2004, BG prepared a HOPE VI application (Tuxedo Court) for Birmingham, AL that was selected for $20 million.
  • In 2004/2005, BG assisted the City of Tucson, AZ, in the preparation and development of an application for HOPE VI funding (MLK Apartments) that was selected for $9.8 million.
  • In 2008, BG prepared the HOPE VI application for Stateway Gardens enabling the Chicago Housing Authority to be awarded $20 million.
  • In 2009, BG prepared the HOPE VI applications for Chicago Housing Authority, Newark Housing Authority, Toledo Metropolitan Housing Authority, Charlotte Housing Authority, and Montgomery Housing Authority. The HOPE VI Grants for FY2009 have not yet been awarded.
