Tuxedo Terrace is a newly-constructed mixed-income community located in the Ensley section of Birmingham, Alabama. This community was developed as a result of the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District being a recipient of a $20 million dollar HUD HOPE VI Grant. The HABD procured the services of Boulevard Group to provide development consulting and Program Management services thereby enabling the Authority to serve as its own Developer for the Project. The new community of 110 public housing rental units, 110 affordable rental units and plans for 86 affordable/market homeownership units was built on the site of the former 488 unit Tulane Court public housing community. Construction of the 220 rental units, a mix of garden apartment and walk-up units has been completed along with new streets, infrastructure, public improvements and green space areas. An additional component of the Revitalization Grant, has been construction of 25 3-bedroom single family in-fill houses, developed off-site in the Fountain Heights community, targeted specifically for public housing eligible families.
